Sherry’s Cherries – Flying

I love Ella Fitzgerald and have all her discs. There were so many wonderful singers “back” then. In those days, you had to have great voices to become a singer. Makes sense. There was Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, Andy Williams, Barbra Streisand and many, many more.

Movies Broadway Singers and Beyond is happy to present many beautiful songs by these gifted performers and others.

I open with Flying by Carmen McRae. I had this song since I was 19 years old but recently I began listening to all my Carmen McRae songs and I fell in love with this one. Have you ever felt really good and positive but someone wanted to bring you down? When I shared the music with photographer, Brandy Isadora, she laughed and said she had the perfect picture. Never let anyone bring you down. I felt like I was flying when putting this collection together.

Listen to Ella Fitzgerald’s song, By Strauss. Composed by George Gershwin with lyrics by his brother Ira, they managed to poke fun at Broadway music and their own music, with the lyrics ,”And Gershwin keeps pounding on tin.” Great music and inspired writing.

One of the saddest things for me was after the holidays, they stopped playing Sleigh Ride. Listen for the best version of this song by the master composer himself, Leroy Anderson.

I hope you enjoy this one.

Happy Holidays and with a song in my heart, Sherry
