Sherry’s Cherries: The Best Years of Our Lives
From Space Camp to Neverland

I grew up loving movie soundtracks. This month Movies Broadway Singers and Beyond is paying tribute to some beautiful film music. For those of you who think you don’t like soundtracks, well, give us a listen. You won’t be disappointed. We feature John Williams, Percy Faith, Alfred Newman, Thomas Newman, Dimitri Tiomkin, Andre Previn and so many more.

Some of these will be new but some, I am sure, you will remember. The music from Friendly Persuasion (Thee I Love) is exquisite and we play Dimitri Tiomkin’s masterpiece.

George Duning, who I call the Master of the Sensual, is represented by Aberdeen Caper from The World of Suzy Wong.

The theme to The Last Time I Saw Archie is the song At Last and Percy Faith’s music is perfect for it.

John Williams’ Hook – Flight to Neverland is an all time favorite.

The l953 movie, Lili, starred the one and only Leslie Caron who played the beautiful, naive and imaginative Lili in a carnival show. I was four years old when I saw this movie. I fell in love with Leslie, Mel Ferrer and to me, the puppets were real too. From this movie we feature Hi Lili Hi Lo by Andre Previn. The music was composed by Bronislaw Kaper and won an Academy Award.

I have also included The Flying Theme from E.T.

The show opens with Erich Kunzel’s Space Camp and we close with Defending your Life by Michael Gore. This music is from a great film, Defending Your Life, by Albert Brooks. Someone once asked Albert if he ever thought about the afterlife. He responded with “Have you seen Defending Your Life?” This is Albert’s vision and it is shared by many people. It made sense. The film also starred Meryl Streep. Great film. Spectacular music. I am playing the music that puts me “in the zone.” Happy listening.

Enjoy. With a song in my heart, Sherry
