From the opening bars of music from the film, Jaws, you know the shark is nearby and there is very little time left.
Many of my friends have husbands who love action and adventure films. Sometimes the guys would go to these movies as a group and the women would go to the “chick-flicks”.
I love movie soundtracks. On our next Sherry’s Cherries, we will pay tribute to the music for action, adventure, and suspense films. These are exciting and pulsating pieces from Star Wars, Star Trek, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Airport, The Black Hole, etc.
You will hear from genius composers like John Williams, Ennio Morricone, Hugo Friedhofer, Max Steiner, Jerry Goldsmith, John Barry, and more.
Some, of course, you will recognize, but others will be, if not recognized, unfamiliar.
Action, adventure, and suspense spells danger and the music is definitely exciting, but it is also poignant. There are heroes, heroines, and villains. There are battles won and lost, and lessons learned.
You won’t hear the music from Stephen Spielberg’s movie Jaws. I have friends who are still afraid of sharks because of that movie, and just so you know, director Alfred Hitchcock usually used Bernard Hermann and other master composers to do the music for his films. But on the film, The Birds, there was no music. He let the birds do the talking, so to speak. (I have friends who are still afraid of birds because of this movie).
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre is an important Humphrey Bogart film. It asks the all-important question, who is man? How does he/she make choices?
This is some great music, and I hope you enjoy it. Get on board. We are going on a wild ride.
As usual the show may not start right on the hour, but you’ll know you arrived with “The High and the Mighty”.
With a song in my heart,
Sherry
