Sherry’s Cherries: Pure Imagination

My next show will showcase songs from movies. Not soundtracks, but songs like Moon River, Charade, A Summer Place and several dozen others that perhaps you haven’t heard.

Pay special attention to Magic Mona from The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh. It’s a wonderful song sung by an extraordinary singer, Phyllis Hyman. Truly one of my favorites. Another song I love, which very few people have heard, was introduced in a movie called Small Town Girl. It is called My Flaming Heart. and it is sung by Nat King Cole.

When I think of songs from movies I always think of Andy Williams because he sang so many songs from the movies. Think A Summer Pace, Moon River, Born Free, Charade, Tender Is the Night and more. I could do a whole Andy show, but I can’t. There are rules. A funny story that Andy used to tell was that for several years he got to sing the Academy Award nominated song on the Oscars. The songs he sung all won the Academy Award. His mother would get so excited, she would tell everyone that her son won three Academy Awards. He tried to explain to her that he only sang the songs but, in her mind, her boy won the Oscar. The way Andy could put a song over, and the arrangements were always perfect.

So, you will hear from singers like Johnny Mathis, Jack Jones, Sarah Vaughan and more.

I included a song called Rome Will Never Leave You. This was from a special episode from The Dr. Kildare series. It is a beautiful song sung by Richard Chamberlain and composed by Hal David and Burt Bacharach.

This show begins with the song, Pure Imagination by Josh Groban, and ends with Richard Chamberlain’s Rome Will Never Leave You.

I hope you like this one as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

With a song in my heart,

Sherry
