I’m often asked what my favorite song is. Oh my! Would that be Broadway, movie soundtracks or pop music. I actually have hundreds of favorites.
Sherry’s Cherries new show will present some of these personal favs.
When I was 17 and a student at NYU, I bought my first Carmen McRae album, Second to None. To this day I cherish that album and I’m so happy that I can play some of these songs for you. Look for My Reverie and The Night Has a Thousand Eyes.
Carmen McRae, Sarah Vaughan, and Ella Fitzgerald were three spectacular singers who really could put a song over and they deserved all the success they gained in their lifetime. I will also be playing Sarah Vaughan’s Serenata. This has been one of my favorite songs since childhood.
When I was very young, I heard Johnny Mathis’ Over the Weekend. Through the years I had forgotten the song but several bars from the middle of the song stayed in my head and haunted me, and I wondered where the music came from. Then one year I played all of my Johnny Mathis songs and low and behold there it was… Over The Weekend. Look for that one too.
You will also hear music from Nat King Cole, Jack Jones, and Barbra Streisand.
As you know the show may start a minute late, but you’ll know you arrived with Carly Simon’s Have You Seen Me Lately and we close with Steve and Eydie’s When the Curtain Falls.
More of these shows will be presented in the future. I hope you enjoy it all.
With a song in my heart.
Sherry
