Sherry’s Cherries: And The Melody Lingers On

You know what it’s like, you hear a song and the melody lingers on long after the song is finished. Most of us have heard the expression: Dance as if no one is watching and sing as if no one is listening. Many years ago my husband had seen the movie, The Days of Wine and Roses. He liked the movie, but he loved the song. One day he was walking down the street, and it started to rain. He found himself alone and he began to sing The Days of Wine and Roses out loud. He sung as if no one was listening, and he never forgot doing this and that’s what it’s all about.

That’s the Way I Like It by K.C. and Sunshine Band is one of the songs like that for me. Whenever my friend, Cindy, would hear that song, wherever she was, she thought of me.

On our next Sherry’s Cherries, we pay tribute to some beautiful melodies. Many of these songs do have lyrics but this tribute is about the melody.

Throughout my long life there are some melodies that have captured my soul.

You will hear from artists like John Williams, Ray Anthony, George Duning, Max Steiner, Michel Legrand, and my beloved Percy Faith. Special attention should be given to No Other Love. I played this song on my last tribute when it was sung by Engelbert Humperdinck. That version was taken from the Broadway Show, Me and Juliet, by Rodgers and Hammerstein. Before that, the melody was created by Richard Rodgers for his TV series, Victory at Sea, and it was called Beneath the Southern Cross. Rodgers must have loved this music and decided to use the melody for the Broadway show and Oscar Hammerstein contributed the lyrics to this haunting melody.

Some of these songs you will recognize but others will definitely be new.

Many of these melodies come from movies, and/or Broadway shows. Full orchestras are heard here. There are even songs from the Big Band era.  If you like it, let me know. I hope you enjoy it. This is relaxing music except for Elmer Bernstein’s Walk on the Wild Side but, well, it is the wild side.

The show begins with Baubles Bangles and Beads by Percy Faith and closes with a Walk on the Wild Side

With a song in my heart.
