Many of our listeners love movie soundtracks. I am often asked what my favorite soundtrack is and frankly, I’d be hard pressed to name just one. One of my favorite actors from the past was Errol Flynn. No one could play a pirate or Robin Hood as good as Flynn.
Although he aspired to play serious, challenging dramatic roles, in his youth he was often asked to put on the tights. For his female fans, this was a thrill. Errol’s exploits, off screen, seemed tame by today’s standards. Because of the freedoms given to famous celebrities, their lives are wilder and more uninhibited than most of ours. In today’s world, because of the media we hear about everything, and these exploits are becoming the norm.
In Errol’s time, the Hollywood studios protected the stars’ reputations to some extent. We wouldn’t have wanted Errol to set the standard for behavior. I have met Errol’s daughter, Rory, and she is a beautiful, lovely woman who absolutely adored her father. We are all multi-faceted and project different behavior to different people.
Errol Flynn was a charming, handsome, dashing character. Every film he was in was better because of his presence. I hope you like this picture of Errol and one of his favorite co-stars, Olivia de Havilland.
The music from The Adventures of Robin Hood was composed by Erich Wolfgang Korngold and we will be playing this today for you. Enjoy!
