Sherry’s Cherries: Singers and Their Songs – Unforgettable

“Sometimes a single moment can change all the ones that follow.” Jimmy Webb…

They said that Natalie Cole was extremely nervous when she recorded the duet album, Unforgettable, with her father, the late Nat King Cole, who died in 1967.

Nowadays it is common for children or relatives of celebrities to become celebrities too. It is called NEPO babies. Back in the “olden days” young actors or singers of celebrated icons struggled to find their own identity while carving a path in show business. Such was the case with beautiful Natalie Cole.

Movies Broadway Singers and Beyond is proud to present Singers and Their Songs . . . Unforgettable, with Natalie and Nat.

My mother was a major fan of Nat King Cole. We listened to all of his music. When I heard Natalie, I cried. I could hear the beauty, pathos, and longing in her voice. Natalie, I love you and your dad.

When I wanted to choose a song from Johnny Mathis, I chose Jimmy Webb’s Evie. I love his lyrics, which I put above. Jimmy composed Galveston, By the Time I Get to Phoenix, MacArthur Park, Wichita Lineman, and The Moon’s A Harsh Mistress. He is a tremendous talent.

For Frank Sinatra, I chose the sensual Mind If I Make Love to You from the film High Society. Frank is famous for so many songs, but this is one of my favorites.

Michael Bublé’s It Had Better Be Tonight from The Pink Panther is reminiscent of Johnny Mathis’ televised version from the 1960’s where he sang it on The Ed Sullivan Show with Henry Mancini. Johnny never recorded this song as far as I know. If any listeners out there know of any album or disc where Johnny sang this song, please let me know.

We open with Unforgettable with Nat and Natalie, and we close with Come Wander with Me.

With a song in my heart.

Sherry
