Sherry’s Cherries: Follow Me

Many years ago my daughter, Brandy, and I were in a Banana Republic waiting to pay for our purchases. Suddenly there was the most beautiful music coming from a big screen television which was in another room. Brandy, who is a musician, and appreciates the music as much as I do, looked at me and said “what is that?” I never found out the name, but the melody haunted me for years. Many years later I purchased a Burn the Floor II and suddenly there it was again, the music. I was so thrilled I finally found out the name of the song. When Brandy came over the next time, I put the DVD on for her and she looked at me and said, “Oh my God, that’s that song we heard in the Banana Republic that day.” The song is Slip Into Something More Comfortable by Kinobe.

On my next Sherry’s Cherries Show I have included this beautiful melody for you. All the songs in this show will have some of the most beautiful melodies. There will be both instrumentals and vocals. But above all, there will be the beautiful melodies.

You will hear several pieces from Percy Faith, Andy Williams, John Williams, Johnny Mathis, Carmen McRae and more. Some of these you might recognize but others will be new.

One of my favorite vocals is Baia by Johnny Mathis. When I first heard this piece I wanted to see where this music came from. Lo and behold, it came from a Donald Duck movie called The Three Caballeros. It turns out that there was a big to do over the fact that Donald Duck was lusting after a woman. Nonetheless this was a beautifully filmed movie and the song Baia is exquisite.

There are lots of beautiful melodies in this world. These are some of my favorites. Let me know what you think.

The show closes with Sayonara by Percy Faith. I have a dear friend who is Japanese. At that beginning of our relationship when I was saying good bye to her one day, I said Sayonara. She looked at me and said, “Oh Sherry, sayonara means good-bye. Good-bye.” She said when you know you are going to see someone again soon you say matine: that means I will see you soon. So dear friends and listeners, although I am closing with Sayonara, this is only matine.
