A friend of mine recently said that we played some of Barbra Streisand’s new music and she loved it. It got me to thinking. I first became acquainted with Barbra’s magical voice during college. My roommate was one of the few students in the dorm to have a record player and she would buy every Barbra Streisand album. We would listen, sing along and be in heaven. I became addicted to Barbra.
Barbra was destined to be an original. Just look at the spelling of her name. And that voice . . . there isn’t another one like it.
Her voice is as strong today as it was many years ago. So Barbra, if you sing, I will listen. I will sing along but fortunately, for everyone involved, I will sing by myself . . . in the art room.
Movies Broadway Singers and Beyond is going “Barbra” this weekend. We will feature her hits of the past and those of the present. Some you will know, some will be new but for all of you, get ready for . . . A Taste of Honey.
